WHAT IS THE YOUTH ACTION COMMITTEE?

The Youth Action Committee (YAC) is a group of youth (14-19) who want to keep youth connected. They create opportunities through events, workshops, speaker series etc. that help build their skills, resilience and network. During COVID-19, this looks a little different from when we are in the BHive! As of March 2020, both  meetings and events happen online.

WHAT IS THE B-TOGETHER TALK SERIES?

Covid 19, social distancing, school closures, and cancelled events have had a significant impact on our youth.  Without social outlets and support, our youth are experiencing  such feelings as sadness, anger, loneliness, and despair. Experiencing many of these feelings first hand, the Youth Action Committee created a platform to discuss these challenges and support local youth to overcome  common obstacles.  Guest speakers and local subject matter experts are brought in to offer insight and guidance to participants during these tough times.

The B Together Talk Series kicked off on April 29, 2020 discussing “B-ing a Student in Isolation” with Guest Speakers: Barb Evoy of Fergus Educational Services, Kim Sonnet a CYW at CWDHS and Jessica Schumacher of Canadian Mental Health Association . The second installment discussed “B-ing Social during Social Isolation” on May 13, 2020. This was an insightful conversation of shared tips  our youth have implemented to continue to socialize while maintaining physical distance. Stay tuned for the next topic of discussion.
