Let us tell you about a match that is going strong as they head into their second year of being matched. This mentor got involved with BBBS wanting to connect with a youth to offer new experiences, enjoy crafts and sports together.

This match has gone so far beyond crafts and sports! This youth was matched just as she was starting high school which proved to be a tough transition. As the trust built in the relationship, this youth started to lean on her mentor and allowed her to support her through the challenges of high school – everything from time management of the workload to navigating difficult teenage friendships.

Encouraging the match to create goals together, the youth asked for help to make a resume for a part-time job. Over the course of a few weeks, the mentor worked with the youth teaching her how to put together a resume and helped the youth to complete it which lead to the youth being hired for her very first part-time job!

The impact that this match has had on this youth increased her social emotional competence by learning to make responsible decisions and increase their self awareness, by increasing their mental health and wellbeing and increasing educational engagement and employment readiness.
