It’s time to warm up those engines so they’re revving and ready for our annual Canada Day Soapbox Derby! Join us on July 1st, 2025 to watch our racers speed through Elora. Don’t forget to make a pitstop back here for more details!
Date: Canada Day! Monday July 1, 2024
Time: Check in with soap box cars at 7:30am. Line cars up in parking lot by Once Upon A Guise. Please drop off soap box cars and find another location to park to keep kids safe from vehicles. Safety inspections start at 8am and the first race will be at 8:30am. The race needs to be cleaned up by 11am for the parade!
Cost: Registration is $15 per racer
Location: Geddes St. (between David and Henderson Street) will be closed to normal traffic. Pit area and finish line by TD Branch in Elora.

All “official” soap box wheels must enter 10” and over.
Classes:
# 1 Jr. Ages 6 – 9 Wheels under 10” in diameter
# 2 Sr. Ages 10 – 16 Wheels under 10” in diameter
# 3 Jr. Ages 6 – 9 Wheels over 10” in diameter
# 4 Sr. Ages 10 – 16 Wheels over 10” in diameter

*Please ensure your racer can stop their car using their breaks and steer their soap box car.*
Rules and Regulations:
- This is gravity racing. No other form of motive power is allowed.
- Cars must run on four wheels, two front and two rear.
- Added weight must be secured safely.
- Legs and feet must be enclosed. Car body covering must be made of rigid impact resistant material. (ie. Wood, Fibreglass or Metal).
- A properly fitted (CSA) helmet is required and must be fastened while racing.
- Brakes are required and must be capable of short, safe stops with no damage to road surface. No drag chutes or similar braking devices are allowed.
- Steering must be by wheel or bar. Rope or foot controlled steering systems are not allowed. Steering must not be loose.
- All cars must pass a safety inspection on the morning of the race. Cars judged not to be safe will not be allowed to participate in the races.
- All drivers must produce a signed parental consent and waiver form. If you require a print out version of the form, please email BBBSCW Team (see below)
- Only one entry per car in each class will be allowed. If necessary, drivers may alternate or move up to the next class. (ie. Class 1 to 2, 2 to 4 or 3 to 4)
- Due to ramp limitations, cars should: A) Have a nose or a bumper B) Wheel width no wider than 44” C) Overall length cannot exceed 90”
- No weight restrictions but must be light enough for handlers to load on to trailer, ramp, etc.
- Minimum wheel diameter 5”. Any less and you will not get down the hill!
